What Research Is Exploring
Clary Sage essential oil has been studied directly in humans, although the research is still relatively small. A pilot study examining both inhaled and dermally applied Clary Sage found that changes in pulse rate differed by sex and by route of application, an interesting reminder that essential-oil effects can depend on how they are used. In a separate double-blind randomized controlled trial of 34 women undergoing urodynamic testing, inhaled Clary Sage was associated with changes in blood pressure and respiratory rate compared with control conditions. These small studies do not establish that this product treats stress, blood-pressure problems, or any medical condition, but they demonstrate that researchers are investigating measurable physiological responses to Clary Sage essential oil. More research is needed.
