What Research Is Exploring

Copaiba naturally contains beta-caryophyllene (BCP), a compound that is also being studied on its own in humans. The distinction is important: studies of purified BCP are not studies of doTERRA Copaiba Softgels. In a randomized double-blind crossover pharmacokinetic study, 24 healthy adults received a single 100 mg dose of BCP either as neat oil or in a specialized self-emulsifying delivery system; the specialized formulation produced substantially greater and faster BCP absorption. That study is especially useful because it shows that formulation can materially change how much BCP reaches the bloodstream. An eight-week randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial in 66 people with H. pylori infection tested 126 mg/day of purified BCP. It did not eradicate the infection and did not significantly change the study's breath-test or histology measures, although some gastrointestinal symptom and inflammatory-marker changes were reported. Another randomized trial in 52 women with obesity and food-addiction scores tested 100 mg/day BCP; the food-addiction score changed, while body composition, appetite, eating behavior, mental-health measures, and several other outcomes did not significantly improve versus placebo. These studies are interesting for understanding BCP, but the dose, formulation, and composition differ from Copaiba resin essential oil, so they should not be used to claim that this product produces the same outcomes.
