What Research Is Exploring
Eucalyptus has more human research than many essential oils, but the findings need context. In a randomized trial after total knee replacement, 52 participants inhaled eucalyptus or almond oil during rehabilitation; pain scores were lower in the eucalyptus group, while heart rate, C-reactive protein, and white-blood-cell measurements did not differ significantly. Another randomized trial in 70 people with rheumatoid arthritis reported lower pain scores and improved quality-of-life measures after eucalyptus inhalation alongside routine treatment. A systematic review of six randomized cough trials involving 1,857 participants found only a small benefit of eucalyptus products and judged its clinical importance uncertain; four of the six trials used combination formulas, so the findings cannot simply be attributed to eucalyptus essential oil alone. Research is continuing, and these studies do not establish that this retail oil treats arthritis, cough, respiratory disease, inflammation, or another medical condition.

Use: Follow the current product label for aromatic and topical directions and dilution guidance.
Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Do not ingest unless the current product label specifically directs internal use. Avoid eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas. Follow all current label precautions. Published case reports and reviews have described seizures associated with eucalyptus-oil exposure, particularly in children, so careful storage and label-directed use are important.
