Ginny's Note
I’ve personally used Myrrh and love how different its deep resinous aroma is from most essential oils. If you’re comparing Myrrh with Frankincense, Sandalwood, Helichrysum, or another oil for a topical or aromatic routine, call or text me at 619-851-8236.
What Research Is Exploring
Myrrh has human clinical research, but the preparation varies substantially from study to study. A 2023 three-arm randomized controlled trial with 91 participants compared no massage, massage with jojoba oil, and massage using Frankincense plus Myrrh essential oils in people with chronic low-back pain; the aromatherapy-massage group showed larger improvements on the study's pain and disability measures. Because Myrrh and Frankincense were used together and massage was part of the intervention, the trial cannot tell us what Myrrh essential oil contributed by itself. Other randomized human studies have used Myrrh extract as a mouthwash or sitz-bath rather than the steam-distilled essential oil sold here. Those extract studies should not be treated as proof that this bottle produces the same effects. This research is useful for understanding what scientists are exploring, but it does not establish that doTERRA Myrrh Essential Oil treats pain, wounds, infection, or another medical condition.
