What Research Is Exploring
Vetiver essential oil is beginning to receive more direct human research. In a 2025 study, 67 participants entered an essential-oil sleep experiment and were assigned to lavender, vetiver, or orange-blossom groups for four to six weeks. Among the 18 participants in the vetiver group, average sleep-quality questionnaire scores improved, and systolic blood pressure and heart rate also decreased after the intervention. Because this was a small study with no non-aroma control group described in the abstract, the results should be considered preliminary rather than proof that Vetiver treats insomnia, high blood pressure, or any medical condition. A newer randomized trial in older adults also used vetiver as one component of a multi-oil nighttime blend, so that study cannot tell us what vetiver alone contributed. Research is continuing.
