Ginny's Note

I’ve personally used Copaiba and like how easily its softer woody aroma fits into blends without overpowering the other oils. If you’re comparing Copaiba with Frankincense, Myrrh, Cedarwood, or another woody oil, call or text me at 619-851-8236 and I’ll help you compare them.

What Research Is Exploring

Copaiba has some direct human research, although the studies are still small and the formulations vary. A 2022 randomized controlled inhalation study in 22 adults found lower state-anxiety scores and changes in heart rate, salivary cortisol, and EEG measures after Copaiba odor exposure compared with jojoba oil. The Copaiba oil used in that study was supplied by doTERRA, and one study author was affiliated with doTERRA Shanghai, which is useful context when interpreting the results. A separate double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial tested a 1% steam-distilled Copaiba essential-oil gel on acne-affected skin and reported a greater reduction in affected surface area than placebo. Another randomized double-blind study tested Copaiba oil incorporated into a silicone scar gel; 42 people enrolled and 32 completed the 84-day evaluation, with better overall scar scores in the Copaiba formulation, but the silicone-based combination is not equivalent to applying this bottled oil by itself. Importantly, not every human study has been positive: a 23-person randomized gingivitis trial found no significant advantage for a 10% Copaifera gel over placebo after 21 days. These studies are interesting but preliminary and do not establish that this retail oil treats anxiety, acne, scars, gingivitis, pain, inflammation, or another medical condition.
