What Research Is Exploring
For this product family, we can prioritize research that actually used doTERRA products rather than assuming results from an unidentified essential oil apply to Deep Blue. A 2018 controlled clinical study enrolled 36 people with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and/or chronic hand inflammation. Participants received a massage-like AromaTouch Hand Technique twice daily for five days using either coconut oil or a 50/50 preparation of doTERRA Deep Blue and doTERRA Copaiba. The Deep Blue/Copaiba group showed improvements in several dexterity, strength, flexion, and pain measures compared with the coconut-oil group. This is a much closer product match than generic essential-oil research, but it still has important limitations: Deep Blue and Copaiba were used together, massage/touch was part of the intervention, the study was small and short, and four of the five authors were affiliated with doTERRA. It therefore cannot tell us what Deep Blue alone would do or establish that this retail blend treats arthritis or another medical condition. We will give studies using identified doTERRA oils greater relevance when available while still disclosing company involvement and study limitations.
